Actors Workshop Theatre at TRU is on their way to perform their next show, “Drinking in America” written by Eric Bogosian, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in late November
“Drinking in America” by Eric Bogosian will be the second show in the TRU Actors Workshop Theatre 2020/2021 season and will be directed by TRU professor, Wesley Eccleston
Kamloops, BC (November 9, 2020) – The TRU Actors Workshop Theatre (AWT) will be premiering the second show of their 2020/2021 season on November 26, 2020, and audiences are welcome to attend “Drinking in America” by Eric Bogosian, directed by Wesley Eccleston.
Wesley Eccleston, a longtime professor and Alumni of the TRU theatre program quoted the New York Times when talking about the show. “A breakneck, hair raising comic tour of the American psyche,” quoted Eccleston about the show in general. “Cleverly written… It sinks its teeth deep into America and gives us something to chew on,” said Eccleston, quoting the famous New York magazine.
“Drinking in America” by Eric Bogosian is the winner of the 1986 Obie Award for Best New Play and it is a full-length collection of hilarious, tough, and touching theatrical monologues. It is a wild, nightmarish ride through an America where success can excuse a lot of faults. The show is set in a comedy club where each monologue is recited by a different actor and has been adapted as it was originally a one-man show.
The show will be taking place amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Any audience members wishing to attend a live performance must follow the guidelines set out by the Actors Workshop Theatre. Anyone entering the theatre is required to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer. Every group will be required to physically distance from other groups. When people enter the theatre, they will be immediately seated and will not be allowed to move from their seats until the show has ended. If an audience member needs to leave for whatever reason, they will not be allowed back into the theatre. The Actors Workshop Theatre will also keep track of attendees to conduct contact tracing if necessary.
“Drinking in America” by Eric Bogosian will run at the TRU Actors Workshop Theatre, located in the Old Main building at TRU, from Nov 26-28 and Dec 3-5. The doors for each show will open at 7:00 pm and the show will begin at 7:30 pm to allow for minimal crowding. There are very few seats available to comply with physical distancing and safety protocols.
Tickets are available for 16.50 dollars each online at truactorsworkshoptheatre.tickit.ca/.
